Outfitter Review - Numzaan Safaris
by Kent Thomas

With over 250,000 acres of private hunting land, Numzaan Safaris will put you in the middle of
the most diverse array of African game you could hope for.  While this trip focused on
bowhunting plains game, we saw Lion, Zebra, Rhino, Monkeys, Jackals, Springbok, Bushbuck,
Waterbuck, Nyala, Bleesbuck, Eland, Bush Pig and hundreds of birds species not found here
in the US.  Adding to the amazement, we saw all of the above species of animals and many
more from our archery blinds within 40 yards or less.
“At Numzaan we are passionate about hunting, have an absolute commitment to quality and
offer exceptional trophies in a picture-perfect setting”. Located in Limpopo, South Africa,
owned and run by Stef and Lenette Swanepoel, their above statement to you is absolutely
correct.  Much of the over a quarter of a million acres of land available to you has been in their
family for decades, offering endless archery and rifle opportunities. I can attest that their
number one focus is you.  During the cooler and dry winter months in South Africa is the best
time to plan an archery hunt.  Lasting from mid-July until mid-October, with the peak running
until mid-September.  In our group of 14, only three of us bowhunted exclusively while the
others brought both archery and rifles to maximize their opportunities.  Clearly, they can
handle such a large groups, but parties from 4-8 will work best for you and them.  Every detail
of your trip, hunt and stay is meticulously and professionally considered and with hunting
packages starting around $2,500 for four animals and the inclusive services Numzaan offers
and even adding airfare, this trip will actually cost you less than booking an elk trip out west or
most trophy whitetail hunts here in the US. With Stef and Lenette, I assure you that you’ll arrive
as valued clients, but just like we did, leave as friends.  Visit them at
www.numzaan.com and
seriously consider visiting them in person, it will be a decision you won't regret!

A&A Outfitting is headquartered in Corning IA but has
access  to huntable land extends through Southern IA
and Northern MO.  Most of the acreage however is in
Iowa’s Zone 4, a haven for some monster bucks.  Kent
Thomas and I had the opportunity to hunt with Greg
in 2003 and were amazed at the number of quality deer over our five-day hunt.  There is no
question that Greg and Andy have the property to hunt and the deer hunters want.
What makes A&A unique in my opinion, and is a huge selling point for the person who likes
to participate and feel they have a say in where they hunt, is the fact that there is a “Do It
Yourself” feel to the hunt.  Greg and Andy make available extra stands for you to hang if you
feel the need to move to a ridgeline or move closer to a food source because most of the
bucks you see are traveling those routes.  This is not to say however that Greg and Andy
will not suggest or place you in the best stand locations possible based on their intimate
knowledge of the properties, wind and the deer.
During our five days on stand Kent and I had opportunities at multiple Pope & Young bucks
in the 125-135 range.  I actually had a very young ten point that would have likely scored
140 but I couldn’t bring myself to release an arrow
because of his young age.  That deer is now a
monster ten roaming the timber as we speak I’m
sure.  As a result of our high goals, we both came
home empty handed but it wasn’t for a lack of
quality deer or effort by A&A.  Both of us watched
multiple 150-170 class deer pass just out of range
during our stay.  Personally I had two “shooters”
that would have measured 150-160  within bow
range but both had main beams that were broken
off.  I would have loved to see the deer that did
that damage to those two bucks!  In speaking with
Kent, I think he may have laid eyes on “Mr. Big” as
he saw the largest deer he has ever seen roaming
the woods.
2006 will mark the return of Three Creeks to IA.  We will again hunt with Greg and Andy and
attempt to capture a monster buck on film for our Camp Stories North American Edition
scheduled for release in the Fall of 2007.  I’ll be sharing camp with Tommy on this
adventure, hoping to coax one of those huge IA bucks into muzzleloader range.  Be sure to
check back around the Christmas Holidays for an update on our December 8th hunt with
Greg and Andy of A&A Outfitters.   If you are interested in booking a hunt with A&A please
contact either Greg or Andy at the above listed numbers or check them out at
www.aaoutfittersofiowa.com, you won’t regret it!

December 2006 - Our return to Iowa to hunt with A&A Outfitters

December 8th - 12th , yes that is all the time we had to get back to Iowa and hunt with A&A.
Both Tommy and I were very excited about the trip and our excitement was rewarded the first
half hour of the first morning, can you say 170 inch ten pointer......?  Well we weren't able to
catch up to him but the trip was off to a great start.  The next three days were no different
than the first, as we had numerous encounters with bucks over 140 inches.  Unfortunately
Tommy and I weren't able to get in range of the deer we wanted but it only makes us more
excited about 2007 when we will go back with bows in hand and hunt the rut.   As usual the
effort put out by Greg and Andy was second to none making for a very memorable trip.  Like
I said above give A&A a call, you will not regret it.
