Ordinary Guys Making Extraordinary Memories
Anticipation....
by Mark Reilly - Team Camp Stories

Yes it is TAG time.  From about mid June through the end of

July I will be running to the mailbox each evening in search of
the results.  Unfortunately for me it is all to similar to my college
applications...."We regret to inform you that you did not get
into "X" college".  But like the college applications it is the
anticipation that is so intoxicating.  Will this be the one, will
I have somewhere to go to college or hunt this fall?  All it take
is one "Successful" and you have forgotten about all the ones that didn't work out.
I'm very lucky living in Oregon that most all the hunting is over the counter for archery.
This allows me to put in for various limited entry or trophy units around the US knowing
that if I don't draw I still have plenty of hunting to do in my home state.  Also by applying
for these hard to draw tags you limit your chances of drawing 3 high quality tags in one
year and wondering how you are going to be able to take advantage of them without
getting fired or coming home to changed locks.
There are a lot of great services out there these days that make

this application process very easy but in reality all you need to

do is put reminders on your computer that will pop up prior to

the various deadlines so that you don't allow these key dates to

pass.
If you haven't already started applying for out of state hunts I

suggest you give it a try.  There is a great big world of hunting

out there and it doesn't need to cost a fortune.  In most states

there are tons of quality public hunts that you can take
advantage of that offer a real chance at a trophy animal.  More importantly it allows you
to chase a variety of game that you might not be able to find in your home state.
I know I'll be running to the mailbox again this evening hoping to find that envelope from
WY, NM, OR or AZ .  More than likely I'll be disappointed again this year but you never
know, this could be the year that I hit the jackpot.  But if things don't pan out for this fall
I'll go into 2008 knowing that I have one more preference point making my odds of
drawing that much better.  Best of luck to all of you and m
ay your next trip to the mailbox
be a memorable one.  I'll be sure to let you know if mine is!
